Amherst, NY – Today in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court struck down the ‘millionaire’s amendment,’ a law that allowed candidates running for federal office to exceed standard contribution limits in order to compete with wealthy, self-funding candidates. The challenge to the law was brought by former Republican and millionaire Jack Davis, who is running for a third time for Congress in NY-26 as a Democrat after two unsuccessful previous bids for the office.
Alice Kryzan, Jack Davis’ primary opponent, said:
“At a time when everyday people are struggling to make ends meet, we should be fighting to remove the influence of big money from politics rather than giving millionaires and special interests even more power over the political process. When I am elected to Congress, I will fight for our forgotten middle class.”
Mike Alfoni, Alice Kryzan’s campaign manager said:
“If Jack thinks he can buy this election, it just shows how out of touch he really is. Alice understands that Washington is broken, and knows that the voters of Western New York can’t be bought by millionaires or special interest money.”
Alice Kryzan is a mother, attorney and community volunteer who has lived and worked in Western New York for thirty years.
