Alice Kryzan for Congress

Alice Kryzan

Alice Kryzan has opened her headquarters office, starting the summer campaign season.

A candidate for the 26th Congressional District, Kryzan said she first announced her intentions to run in the fall of 2007.
The seat is currently held by Rep. Thomas M. Reynolds, who is not seeking reelection.

On May 29, she opened her headquarters at 5888 Main St., Williamsville. Now, she is looking forward to the "heart of the campaign" process, leading up to the Democratic primary in September.

A resident of Eggertsville, Kryzan worked as an environmental attorney for 30 years. She served as chairman of the Environmental Law Section of the State Bar Association, worked in three Buffalo law firms and was named the first female partner at one.

She said her experience in the private sector makes her a great candidate for Congress.

"I have worked with opposing sets of views and reached a solution to the problem that works," she said, adding that she always walks away with the respect of everyone involved.

Her focus for Western New York is growth. The economy needs to expand through "green collar" jobs, bringing opportunity for alternative fuel, she said.

Green collar jobs relate to new energy, not based on oil and coal, that are renewable.
"We need to attract clean, renewable industries to the area," she said.

Kryzan said she is also focusing on health care, ensuring that every American has it; supporting public education; and working on free trade deals to protect American families.
She said she is the only candidate to date who has agreed to follow a plan to end the war and safely remove troops from Iraq. She said she has pledged to vote for the legislation, found at www. responsibleplan. com.

When asked why she chose Congress as her first political race, Kryzan said the country and the district are at important crossroads, and there is a real opportunity to make a difference - and a better WNY.

Of the first candidates to throw their hats in the ring, including Democrats Jack Davis and Jon Powers and Republican Chris Lee, none have political experience, Kryzan said, making it an unusual race.

"I offer the people the best option for moving forward and return security and prosperity to families in Western New York," Kryzan said, adding that she will be campaigning throughout the district, meeting constituents.

"I understand their problems, and I will go to Washington, D.C., to solve them," she said, adding that she is not part of the political games.

She and her husband, Bob Berger, have a son, Sam.
