Lee's Silence on the Economic Crisis Speaks Volumes
Voters of NY's 26th deserve an answer

Amherst, NY —Chris Lee has canceled debate appearances with Alice Kryzan, and today we read in the Buffalo News and heard on WBEN radio that he has no comment on the economic crisis affecting Americans across the country and here in Western New York.

Chris Lee's continued silence about the financial crisis that has rocked the country over the last two weeks shows a lack of courage and an interest in politics over policy. He's not only refused to comment on the problems facing Wall Street, but also those that have plagued Main Street for the last eight years. For too long, the hardworking people of Western New York have seen wages stagnate, unemployment grow and more and more good jobs be sent overseas. Yet Chris Lee has failed to offer any real plan to bring jobs here.

Alice has consistently stressed the importance of bringing alternative energy industry jobs to the district, releasing a comprehensive plan detailing how we can strengthen our economy and create jobs, while reducing our dependence on foreign oil and keeping our environment clean. Alice knows we need to position ourselves to take advantage of this growth industry, bringing good paying jobs to the district that cannot be sent overseas.

Despite touting his business expertise, Lee has offered no concrete solutions. Instead, he has argued for a continuation of failed Bush policies, making sure that millionaires get a tax break and that government doesn't "get in the way." We've seen the results of those failed ideas—financial crisis and more hard-earned taxpayer money going to fix the problem.

"Chris Lee refuses to take a position on the pressing issues facing our country because he's not a member of Congress. With that kind of attitude, he shouldn't be," said spokesperson Anne Wadsworth. "He's offered no plan, no vision, and no leadership. Western New Yorkers deserve a leader we can count on to fight for the hardworking people of this district, not hide from the tough issues that affect our lives."

Lee has said nothing about the financial crisis from day one, as Western New Yorkers were confronted with the disastrous results of following his failed approach of knee-jerk deregulation. While the American people face real problems, Lee offers only recycled Bush talking points. We don't need two more years of failed policy and cheap talk. We need action.

"Yesterday, a young woman told me that she was nervous for herself and her daughter, nervous about how this financial crisis will affect them. She asked for my help when I get to Congress," said Alice Kryzan. "She and thousands of people like her are the reason I'm running for Congress—to be an independent voice for the hardworking families of this district who have been ignored for too long. You're the people I care about, and the ones I'll fight for."

The voters deserve a representative who will fight for their interests, not run from tough problems.
