Amherst, NY — Chris Lee, Republican congressional candidate in NY-26, is still running from the problems facing our district, stunned into silence by the financial crisis and continuing to dodge debate after debate.
The last two weeks, Chris Lee has been unable or unwilling to explain how he can support further deregulation after the disastrous results of these policies for our financial institutions. But Lee's dangerous deregulation rhetoric doesn't stop there. He says he supports a "market-based approach" to healthcare, which John McCain explained means making the healthcare system more like the financial markets.
Does Chris Lee really want our health care system to be in the same shape as our financial institutions? Since he refuses to be clear about his position, it's hard to really know.
Alice understands the importance of providing affordable health care to all Americans, as rising healthcare costs place a tremendous strain on hardworking families and small businesses alike.
That's why Alice signed the Health Care for America Now pledge to provide quality, affordable health care for all. She knows we need to build on our existing healthcare system, so we can provide people with options to make the right choice for themselves and their families and stop letting insurance companies put their profits before people's health.
"Hiding from these problems won'’t make them go away. Lee needs to start talking about the issues and stop running from debates," said spokesperson Anne Wadsworth. "We need to let families make their medical decisions, not insurance companies. The current healthcare system is broken, and the solution isn't to make healthcare more like the financial industry."
Chris Lee has barely anything to say about healthcare, but what he has said is bad enough. We know what a strictly market-based approach to healthcare means—more Americans losing coverage while more money goes to insurance companies. Chris Lee just doesn't get it.
We can't afford another Bush Republican more concerned with helping Wall Street CEOs, Big Oil, and insurance companies than the people of Western New York. The voters deserve someone who offers new solutions, not one who continues the failed policies of the past.
"Providing affordable health care for all is a no-brainer," said Alice Kryzan. "It will keep families healthy and strong, while making it easier to start and run a business. It's time for a representative who cares more about people than profits."
Health care that works like our financial institutions? It’s past time for Chris Lee to explain what he means and where he stands.
