Amherst, NY —Today Alice Kryzan, candidate for U.S. Congress in New York's 26th District, released Building Up Business: Strengthening Our Competitive Advantages, a plan that outlines a set of policies and approaches designed to grow the green economy in Western New York.
Reiterating her view that the region is uniquely situated to be a world leader in alternative energy production and the entire spectrum of the green economy, Kryzan said:
"We need to focus our energy on creating policies and making investments that build on our competitive advantages. The business and economic development communities are beginning to recognize this through collaborative efforts such as the Great Lakes Business Agenda and the Apollo Alliance. I believe that with smart policies and investments we can create the infrastructure, workforce, financial incentives, and demand that will grow the green economy here in Western New York."
Kryzan added that she was pleased to accept a debate invitation from Buffalo Niagara Partnership,
"I am excited that the Partnership intends to host a debate. Given their important role in the future economic development of the region, I can think of no better place to talk about the issues so critical to the growth and success of Western New York."
Kryzan's plan outlines concrete steps to improve the business climate, including:
- Supporting policies that will grow the green economy, including an extension of the production tax credit, full funding of the Green Jobs Act, and increased investment in brownfield redevelopment.
- Protecting and harnessing our natural resources, with a focus on the Great Lakes.
- Investing in research and innovation to reverse the region's "brain drain" and fortify the college and university system as a driving economic force for the region.
- Renewing our focus on infrastructure investments, like the Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s transportation infrastructure plan, to regain our position as a trade and commerce center.
