Amherst, NY — Today, the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Alice Kryzan, Democratic candidate for the 26th Congressional District.
Dr. Joseph A. Gardella, Jr., Chair of the Toxics Committee and statewide Chair of the Political Committee of the Sierra Club Atlantic (NY) Chapter, highlighted Alice's tremendous work on behalf of the environment,
"As America's largest grassroots environmental organization, it is such a pleasure for local grassroots Sierrans to initiate this endorsement and provide support to one of our own, Alice Kryzan. We have long known Alice's commitment to the environment, and her commitment to bring people to the table to resolve difficult environmental and energy issues we face locally, nationally and globally. Alice has been a stalwart in supporting a fair analysis of coal fired power plants in the region, and their local and global carbon emissions. We are so pleased that the national Sierra Club political committee has recognized the significance of her candidacy, for Western New York and the country."
As an environmental attorney, Alice's experience and interest has included a focus on global climate change and energy independence issues. After more than 30 years of practicing environmental law, Alice has almost fully retired but continues to provide advice to a municipal client on the siting of a wind farm proposed for the town. She is also currently working as a volunteer with a coalition of environmental groups, including the Atlantic Chapter of the Sierra Club, opposing the construction of a coal-fired power plant.
In August, Alice was endorsed by a group of prominent local environmentalists, Environmentalists for Alice. She also released her comprehensive energy and environment plan, Building a Sustainable Future, which offers a new type of environmentalism, one that recognizes that we can protect our planet while fulfilling important economic and national security goals.
Reiterating her commitment to issues that have been at the core of her campaign from its inception, Alice commented that:
A full membership list of Environmentalists for Alice and her plan, Building a Sustainable Future, are available at http://www.kryzanforcongress.com/enviroPlan.php."I'm honored to have the endorsement of the Sierra Club and share their commitment to protect Western New York's natural resources. I know that by pursuing smart energy and environmental policies we can create new jobs, bring more dollars to the region, and better utilize our natural resources, all while helping to restore and protect our environment. From the beginning of my campaign, conservation has been a top priority, one I will carry with me as your next representative to Washington. "
