Kryzan: America Needs Clean Energy Solutions Now

Calls on Congress to Pass Strong Clean Energy Bill

December 6, 2007

AMHERST, NY – Underscoring her plan to attract more "green collar" jobs to Western New York, environmental attorney and Democratic candidate Alice Kryzan, running for Congress in New York's 26th District, urged Congress to pass a strong energy bill that significantly invests in renewable energy sources. The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to vote on an energy package this week.

"For over a decade the Republican-controlled Congress turned its back on clean energy solutions, and American families are now paying the price," said Kryzan. "Now with the Democrats at the helm, we have a tremendous opportunity to reduce pollution, become more energy independent, and ease the financial burden of high energy costs on families."

Kryzan called on Congress to pass an energy bill that raises fuel efficiency standards on new passenger vehicles to 35 miles per gallon. Secondly, she's championing a requirement that utility companies produce 15 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2020 – an industry that Kryzan believes could serve as an economic engine for the region.

"It's no secret that America's dependence on oil not only jeopardizes our environment, but has serious implications on our foreign policy and economy as well," said Kryzan. "By investing in alternative energy, we can attack all of those problems head on and reinvigorate our local economy."
