Alice Kryzan for Congress, Building a Sustainable Future

Alice’s Brief Environmental Biography

"The debate is over on climate change. We know it’s real, accelerating, and urgent. That is why I support Al Gore’s clean energy challenge. That is why I have made green jobs and bringing clean alternative energy industries to Western New York my signature issue. That is why I am running for Congress." — Alice Kryzan

Alice began her environmental law career thirty years ago in Western New York as one of the lawyers representing Occidental Chemical Corporation in the litigation seeking compensation for the victims of the Love Canal tragedy. Her ability to work in that highly-charged atmosphere to reach a fair settlement of the personal injury cases, accepted by both sides, has been a hallmark of her environmental legal work ever since.

Working on complex environmental matters for businesses, municipalities and individuals during most of her career has given Alice a real insight into and practical experience with bringing parties of divergent interests together to resolve difficult and contentious problems.

"Alice Kryzan was very helpful in resolving the litigation on behalf of her client and the Love Canal residents. As an active environmentalist, I’m proud of the environmental work that Alice has accomplished on behalf of our District already." — Richard Lippes, former lead counsel for the Love Canal residents

In recent years, Alice’s environmental practice and interest has turned to global climate change and energy independence issues. Now, almost fully retired from the practice of law, Alice continues to provide advice to a municipal client on the siting of a wind farm proposed for the town. She is also currently working as a volunteer with a coalition of environmental groups, including the Atlantic Chapter of the Sierra Club, opposing the construction of a coal-fired power plant. As part of her campaign Alice has participated in such community-wide and industry initiatives as the Step It Up program and the Western New York Apollo Alliance.

Past Professional and Civic Environmental Experience includes:

Alice is the author of the original chapter on inactive hazardous waste sites in the award winning book, Environmental Law and Regulation in New York, as well as articles on environmental law issues, and has made many presentations on environmental law topics, including ones at continuing legal education programs.
