Open Letter From Alice

October 2008

I'm running for Congress to be an independent voice for the people of Western New York. For too long, people in our district have been ignored by Washington, while our economy struggles, wages stagnate and more and more jobs are shipped overseas.

We have a real opportunity in this district to turn around our economy and position ourselves for the future. But we need a change from the last eight years, from the failed deregulation policies that led to the worst financial crisis in almost a century, from the tax cuts for the wealthy that did nothing to help the middle class, and from politicians more concerned with companies' profits than people's lives.

We need to start by bringing good-paying jobs to the area. That's why I want to attract the alternative energy jobs of the 21st century right here to our district, good-paying jobs that can't be shipped overseas. Not only will these jobs improve our economy, but they'll also protect our environment and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

We must stop giving tax breaks to millionaires and start giving them to hardworking Americans. That's why I support tax cuts for 95% of American working families. And we need to close tax loopholes that encourage businesses to create jobs in China, not here at home.

We also need to do more for small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy. We should make it easier to invest in and start a small business, and work to lower energy and health care costs that are stifling innovation and entrepreneurship.

Our healthcare system is broken, leaving too many Americans uninsured or underinsured. Caring for my 95 year-old father, I've seen firsthand how confusing the system can be to negotiate, how hard it is to make sure family members get the care they deserve, and how quickly bills can pile up and cut into savings. That's why we need to make sure that every American has access to affordable, quality healthcare.

And we need to end the War in Iraq, bringing our troops home safely and securely. I opposed the war from the beginning, because I didn't understand why we would turn our attention away from combating global terrorism. Now we're stuck spending billions of dollars a month in Iraq, money that could be better spent here at home.

We need real plans and concrete proposals, not empty talking points and lying attack ads. We need someone who understands the issues facing the hardworking families in this district and is ready to address them.

I've lived and worked in this district for over thirty years, volunteering in the community and raising a family here. I know the problems facing us all: my friends, my neighbors and my co-workers.

I'm Alice Kryzan, and I'm asking for your vote on November 4th.
